Care and Maintenance

Thank you for your purchase! At Sonoran Arts we work to make items you will enjoy for many years to come. To get the most out of your purchase some general care and maintenance is needed on your part.

All our items are sealed with some combination of oil, polyurethane, or shellac. This guarantees that exposure to moisture of any kind will not damage your item. But how do you know what finish is on YOUR product? Simple, if your item is being used in such a way that it will be exposed to liquid & food, we used food safe oil to seal it up! Examples include cutting boards, charcuterie boards, beer flights, etc.

We treat all such items the same to make upkeep easy and consistent. We know that these items are popular for hosting parties and guests as well as presenting food and drinks.

DO NOT’s

  • Submerge in water: Wood and metal (handles and feet hardware) do not mix well with water. Prolonged exposure to water can cause warping, cracking and discoloration to you board. Simple hand wash and immediate towel dry.

  • Use Sharp Knives: The epoxy fill will be damaged and eventually begin to chip away. Unfortunately, this cannot be repaired.

  • Place in dishwasher

Your item may be coated in a butcher block Conditioner (cutting boards and charcuterie boards). Depending on use we recommend recoating every 3-4 uses or as the wood begins to feel dry. If being used for display purposes only, 1-2 times a year should be sufficient. The product we use and recommend is Howard. Follow their application instructions printed on the bottle.

Display only items such as crosses, flags, etc are also coated to protect them from moisture. However, in these cases the only care needed is to limit exposure to moisture, direct sunlight, etc. Displaying items outside will increase the wear and tear, so we recommend displaying such items under an awning or deck to help protect it.

If you have questions, please let us know and enjoy.
